IOC Sticks to Snow and Ice Only for Winter Games

The International Olympic Committee will maintain the Winter Games' focus exclusively on snow and ice sports, rejecting proposals to add summer disciplines like cross-country running and cyclocross.

According to a Kyodo News report, the IOC will adhere to the Olympic Charter's definition of winter sports despite advocacy from figures like Sebastian Coe and the US Olympic Committee for inclusion of summer sports. The decision will be discussed at this week's IOC Executive Board meeting. xsportfeed.quest

The proposal aimed to expand Winter Games programming while curbing the growth of Summer Games and giving Africa greater representation in winter competition. However, IOC President Kirsty Coventry and other leaders have conveyed they will stick to the traditional definition for the "foreseeable future."
