The AL West could make history by crowning a division champion with a losing record for the first time ever, as Texas and Houston are tied at 78-79 with days left in the regular season.

The AL West is on the verge of making MLB history as the Texas Rangers and Houston Astros are tied for first place at 78-79, meaning the division champion will have a losing record. No full-season division champion has ever finished below .500 in MLB history. rouesnews.click

While no team has made the postseason with a sub-.500 record in a full season, exceptions occurred during shortened seasons like 2020 (Milwaukee and Houston at 29-31) and 1981 (Kansas City at 50-53). The 1994 season was also cut short by a strike when the Rangers led the AL West at 52-62.
