Star-Studded Field Set for NCBA Limuru Open & Brackenhurst Trophy
NAIROBI, Kenya, July 16, 2026 – A star-studded field of 96 golfers is set to headline the NCBA Limuru Open & Brackenhurst Trophy at Limuru Country Club this weekend (July 17-19) with the event expected to deliver one of the most competitive amateur showdowns of the season.
The 2026 Kenya Amateur Golf Championship Series leader, John Kamaisi, headlines the line-up that also has second placed Jay Sandhu and third-placed Elvis Muigua alongside Rwanda’s Jean D’Amour Hitayezu who comes to this leg on the back of his win at the NCBA Coast Open ‘Barry Cup’ last weekend.
Teenage sensations Kanana Muthomi and Cherono Kipkorir lead the list of women golfers set for the Limuru showdown alongside Kellie Gachaga, Maryam Mwakitawa, and Nancy Wairimu.
The field features players from Rwanda, Zambia, Namibia, Botswana, Burundi, Uganda, India, Ghana, China, and Serbia, adding strong regional and international appeal as they compete for a share of the KES 700,000 prize pool.
Kamaisi leads the standings on 809.20 points, extending his advantage at the top despite the second-place finish in Mombasa.
Muthaiga Golf Club’s Jay Sandhu sits second on 640.00 points, Elvis Muigua remains third with 495.26 points, Eugine Wafula is fourth on 472.26 points, and William Odek rounds out the top five on 409.56 points.
The Limuru Open & Brackenhurst Trophy remains an important stop on the KAGC pathway, offering players a chance to earn ranking points, sharpen competitive form, and test themselves against some of the region’s best amateurs.
The strength of the entry list also reflects the continued appeal of Limuru Country Club as a venue capable of attracting elite fields and delivering high-quality championship golf.
At the same time, more golfers will be hoping to secure their NCBA Golf Series Grand Finale slots this weekend during the Nyanza Golf Club Monthly Mug, a mini-qualifier of the series.
Qualification to the Grand Finale, set to be held at the prestigious Karen Country Club on November 28, will be earned by the Overall Gross Winner, Men’s Gross Winner, Lady Gross Winner, Division 2 Men Winner, Division 2 Lady Winner, Division 3 Winner, and the leading Junior.
Elsewhere, the fifth leg of the 2026 PGK Equator Tour teed off at Ruiru Sports Club on Thursday, July 16 and will run through to Sunday, July 19.

Stormers coach: Scarra always a call away
Tom Dawson-Squibb is grateful to have veteran hooker Scarra Ntubeni on board as the “underdogs” Stormers XXIII look to kick off their Currie Cup title bid on Friday.
Six debutants will line up for the club against defending champions Griquas at Cape Town Stadium, with Ntubeni on the bench – months after what looked to be his last professional appearance.
Dawson-Squibb on Thursday explained the 35-year-old Springbok’s selection, after injuries have already left the Capetonians short on cover at No 2 this season.
“Right from the start, we had some good young hookers in the club: Vernon Paolo, Luca Bakkes and ‘Boepa’ [Lukhanyo] Vokozela. Unfortunately, Boepa and Luca have been ruled out for the competition before we even got going,” the head coach said.
“It was always in the back of our minds that we don’t necessarily have four hookers, but that our fourth – Scarra – was a call away. It had to happen a little bit quicker.
“It’s a tribute to the guy as a human being that he’s come back. He’s been unbelievable in the meetings, he’s been training hard, he’s lending his experience … I said to him today, what a great way to go out in your career with an opportunity to win a trophy.”
TEAM: Stormers turn to old Bok for opener
Ntubeni’s role forms part of blending youth with experience by the Stormers, in what will also be Dawson-Squibb’s first stint at the helm of a rebranded Western Province outfit in rugby’s oldest competition.
“It so happens that we’ve got some guys who’ve got lots of experience at different levels and it so happens that we’ve got some guys who are young,” he said.
“I personally love it. I think you get the exuberance of youth and then you get the exuberance of a more experienced player. It makes for a really rich dynamic.”
Captain Jean-Luc du Plessis added: “Skat, Oli Kebble, GG [Gerbrandt Grobler], Steph [Ungerer], Cornel Smit has also been around for a while … It really does help out a lot. I don’t have to focus on five, six different departments.
“We have a very strong leadership group and everybody has their role. It’s always good to have some old heads around.”

Turning to Friday’s season opener, Dawson-Squibb was happy to embrace underdog status against a Pieter Bergh-coached side he expects to be direct and physical.
“It’s an interesting position to sit in, in a Stormers jersey as the underdogs, because of Griquas as defending champions and SA Cup finalists,” the former UCT Ikeys boss said.
“I was listening to Pieter talk in the week about the amount of depth that they’ve built and the cohesion that they’ve built; they should be proud of what they’ve done and everyone in the country admires what Griquas have done.
“We know that they’ll be massively physical, we know that they’ll maul a lot. But we’ve been working hard and we’re excited with what we can show them.”

Le président du LOSC, Olivier Létang s’est exprimé, ce jeudi, en conférence de presse. Le dirigeant des Dogues a évoqué le cas Ayyoub Bouaddi, très sollicité après sa belle Coupe du monde avec le Maroc.
Le milieu de terrain de Lille Ayyoub Bouaddi, auteur de belles prestations avec le Maroc en Coupe du monde, fait l’objet de convoitises de nombreux clubs durant ce mercato estival. Son président, Olivier Létang s’est monté clair, ce jeudi, face aux médias au moment d’évoquer son joueur de 18 ans qui a joué 30 matchs en Ligue 1 l’an passé.
« Demain, il peut partir, le club va continuer à avancer. Concernant Ayyoub, tous les clubs qui m’ont appelé pendant cette période, après le match contre le Brésil, je leur ai dit qu’on n’en parlerait pas maintenant. », a confié le dirigeant lillois.
Néanmoins, Olivier Létang ne perd espoir de conserver son joueur un peu plus longtemps et sous contrat jusqu’en 2029 avec les Dogues. « On s’est vu avec Ayyoub après la Coupe du Monde et tout reste possible, mais mon avis, c’est qu’il devrait rester une saison de plus avec nous. (…) Ma conviction, c’est qu’il va rester. Il serait très heureux de refaire une saison avec nous », a-t-il ajouté face à la presse.
