Rising loose forward talent Paul de Villiers’ stock continues to rise as he prepares to make his third straight start for the Springboks in their Nations Championship clash against Wales at Kings Park in Durban on Saturday. esporist.org

“I think the first game, I got the notice very late, so having more preparation time this time around has been good for me,” said De Villiers at the Boks’ team announcement in Durban on Monday.

“There were still a lot of nerves, but it was good to almost know what was coming and be more ready for the game. Credit to this environment, the coaches, and all the players around me. They really help everyone feel comfortable and ready to play.”

De Villiers spoke about his rise through the ranks, with him playing for the Junior Springboks three years ago, before getting his chance for the Stormers and making his way up to a Bok debut, and how training with the national side has prepared him for international rugby.

“You almost go through stages. You get used to senior rugby, then the Currie Cup, then the URC, and then you work toward the goal of getting into the Springbok squad,” explained De Villiers.

“Everything happens systematically. With the training standard during the week, you get used to what will happen on Saturday.”

“They’ve created an alignment in the squad where it’s not about the individual or the ego. It’s about the team. You put your ego aside and play toward a common goal.”

Saturday’s match in Durban kicks off at 5.40pm.

L’histoire entre Ismaël Bennacer et l’AC Milan semble toucher à sa fin. Le milieu de terrain international algérien n’a pas été convoqué pour le stage de préparation estivale des Rossoneri à Milanello, un signe fort concernant son avenir au sein du club lombard. Selon la presse italienne, cette absence ne serait liée ni à un choix sportif ni à un problème physique, mais plutôt à l’évolution de sa situation contractuelle.

Les deux parties auraient entamé des discussions afin de parvenir à une résiliation à l’amiable du contrat du joueur, qui court jusqu’en juin 2027. À la veille de la demi-finale de la Coupe du monde 2026 face à l’Espagne, Didier Deschamps a tenu à rassurer sur l’état de santé de Kylian Mbappé.

Le sélectionneur des Bleus a balayé les inquiétudes nées après l’entraînement de lundi, où le capitaine français avait écourté sa séance.

Interrogé en conférence de presse, Deschamps s’est montré catégorique sur la condition physique de son attaquant.

« Kylian va bien. On ne peut pas aller à plus de 100 %, oui, il est à 100 %. Vous vous fiez à ce qui s’est passé cet après-midi ? Il a le droit, comme d’autres, de faire 10 minutes au lieu de 20 minutes sur un jeu », a expliqué le technicien français.

Aucune inquiétude avant l’Espagne

Kaizer Chiefs have now confirmed five departures during the current transfer window as they continue reshaping their squad ahead of the new season.

Under new coach Fernando Da Cruz, Amakhosi are streamlining the squad in preparation for the 2026/27 campaign, with experienced midfielder Gaston Sirino becoming the latest player to leave Naturena.

The 35-year-old Uruguayan departs after two seasons at the club, having scored five goals in 52 appearances across all competitions. Sirino is expected to join newly promoted Durban City on a free transfer.

Kaizer Chiefs announced his departure in an official statement on Monday.

“Amakhosi bid farewell to Sirino. As Kaizer Chiefs bid farewell to Gaston Sirino, the Club would like to express sincere gratitude to Papi for his dedication and contribution over the past two seasons. The experienced Uruguayan midfielder played a key role in helping Amakhosi achieve success since he arrived at the Club.

Sirino latest to leave Kaizer Chiefs

Sirino becomes the fifth confirmed departure of the off-season.

Earlier, Chiefs announced the release of striker Tashreeq Morris, who struggled to establish himself after arriving from SuperSport United.

Long-serving duo Happy Mashiane and George Matlou were also let go after finding regular game time difficult to come by. Mashiane spent last season on loan at Siwelele FC, while Matlou’s campaign was disrupted by injury after making only sporadic appearances.

Defender Aden McCarthy became Kaizer Chiefs’ first departure of the window after completing a transfer to Azerbaijani side Sabah FK last month.

Meanwhile, Ashley Du Preez’s future remains unresolved, with the forward continuing to be linked with a move back to Stellenbosch FC.
