Ex-FIFA secretary general Fatma Samoura joins African Collaborations Group Advisory Board
African Collaborations Group (ACG), the leading strategic project origination and collaboration platform focused on the industrialisation of sport in Africa through the origination of bankable sport and entertainment district ecosystems, today announced the appointment of Fatma Samoura to its Advisory Board.
Recognised as one of the most distinguished sport administrators of her generation, Ms Samoura brings more than three decades of international leadership experience spanning sport, development, humanitarian affairs and global governance.
Ms Samoura served as Secretary General of FIFA from 2016 to 2023, becoming the first woman and the first non-European to hold the position in FIFA’s history. During her tenure, she oversaw FIFA’s global administration across its major operational and institutional functions, including the delivery of two FIFA World Cups and two FIFA Women’s World Cups. She also played a leading role in strengthening FIFA’s governance, member association services and international development programmes.
Before joining FIFA, Ms Samoura spent more than 21 years with the United Nations, holding senior leadership positions in humanitarian and development operations, including with the World Food Programme (WFP), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). Her UN career took her across Africa, Central and South America and Asia, giving her extensive experience working with governments, international institutions and development partners.
She has served as a Senate Member of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) since February 2022.
Her appointment strengthens the ACG Advisory Board with exceptional expertise in global sport governance, institutional leadership, international development, federation relations and the delivery of major sporting events — capabilities directly relevant to originating and structuring large-scale sport and entertainment district projects across the African continent.
“Fatma Samoura is one of the most distinguished sport administrators of her generation. Her unique experience at the intersection of global governing bodies, national federations, governments and international institutions is precisely the calibre of expertise ACG needs as we originate a new generation of bankable sport and entertainment district ecosystems across the African continent. Her presence on our Advisory Board is a genuine strategic asset,” said Nicolas Pompigne-Mognard (www.Pompigne-Mognard.com), Founder and Executive Chairman of ACG.
The ACG Advisory Board provides strategic guidance as ACG originates and structures large-scale sport and entertainment district projects across the continent, aligning governments, development finance institutions (DFIs), investors, sport bodies and infrastructure partners to support the development of financially sustainable, mixed-use district ecosystems.
Africa’s sport economy is projected to reach $20 billion by 2035, yet the continent continues to lack the integrated district ecosystems required to support large-scale development. ACG addresses this gap by originating bankable sport and entertainment district projects, moving beyond single-venue development models towards mixed-use, revenue-generating and financially sustainable district ecosystems.
Through its collaborative model, ACG convenes governments, PPP authorities and regulators, development finance institutions, private investors, developers, designers and engineers, legal and transaction advisors, operators, sport federations and leagues, event promoters, media and broadcast partners, academic institutions and host communities, creating structured pathways from concept to feasibility, bankability and delivery.

Mauritius: Outstanding student athletes honoured at National Schools Sports Award 2026
Outstanding sporting performances by secondary school students in Mauritius were recognised at the inaugural National Schools Sports Award 2026, held at the Paul Octave Wiehe Auditorium in Réduit following the Intercollege Sports Competitions (ICSC) on 3September.
The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Darmarajen Nagalingum, the Minister of Education and Human Resource, Dr Mahend Gungapersad, Junior Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Gilbert Tony Apollon, as well as rectors, educators, coaches, students and parents.
Jointly organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Education and Human Resource, the ICSC brought together students in seven disciplines: athletics, badminton, basketball, football, swimming, table tennis and volleyball.

He underlined the contribution of sports to physical fitness and mental well-being, while helping young people develop essential skills such as teamwork, communication, leadership and resilience.
Sport, he added, is also a powerful unifying force and an important cultural cement for “Mauritianism”, bringing together young people from different communities across the country.
For his part, Minister Gungapersad emphasised that education extends beyond academic achievement and should provide opportunities for students to engage in sports, music, dance, drama, painting, slam and other areas of personal development.
He also highlighted the role of sport in keeping young people away from drugs and other harmful influences, noting that investment in youth sports contributes to healthier communities and helps equip young people with skills that can benefit them throughout their education, careers and lives.

The competition was open to boys and girls aged 12 to 21 across different categories. A new Benjamin Boys and Girls category was also introduced for 12- and 13-year-olds in athletics, table tennis and badminton, encouraging younger students to take part in competitive sport and providing an additional avenue for recognising sporting achievements.

Ighodaro Targets Strong Comeback Season at Chiefs
Kaizer Chiefs forward Etiosa Ighodaro is determined to put a frustrating injury-hit campaign behind him and make his mark this season.
Ighodaro joined the club last season from rivals Mamelodi Sundowns, but was limited to seven appearances across all competitions due to his injury setbacks.
The 25-year-old has been ever-present in this squad this campaign and has only missed two matches in all competitions.
After limited game time last term, Ighodaro says a productive pre-season has helped rebuild his confidence as he looks to deliver his best for the club and its supporters.
“Last season was quite frustrating for me because of injuries,” Ighodaro told his club’s official website.
“But that is behind me now and I am looking forward to a great season. Hopefully, you’ll see the best of me. I am pushing myself hard to make the Club and the supporters proud.
“I really benefitted from pre-season because I didn’t play a lot last season so I needed the minutes in the practice games to build my confidence.”
