Ex-England star slams Benhard call-up

Former England scrumhalf Danny Care has criticised the inclusion of South African centre Benhard Janse van Rensburg in coach Steve Borthwick’s training squad. rouesnews.click

The Bristol Bears midfielder was on Monday named in a 42-man group ahead of England’s Nations Championship Tests against the Springboks, Fiji and Argentina.

“It doesn’t sit right with me to take away the opportunity for Max Ojomoh or Ollie Lawrence,” Care said on the BBC’s Rugby Union Weekly podcast.

“Whether they [England] don’t like those players personality-wise or on the technical side, they are two young English lads who have dreamt of playing for England.

“I know Janse van Rensburg has been over here five years and qualifies on residency, but I think playing international rugby has to be more exclusive than that.”

Janse van Rensburg becomes eligible for England on 8 July. The former Junior Bok therefore won’t face the Springboks on 4 July at Ellis Park, but could make his Test debut against Fiji at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium on 11 July.

Kenya Police Bullets crowned FKF Women’s Premier League champions

Kenya Police Bullets FC stamped their absolute authority on Kenyan women’s football by capturing the 2025-26 FKF Women’s Premier League title for a historic third consecutive season.

The law enforcers sealed their remarkable campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Madira Soccer Assassins FC in front of a jubilant home crowd at the Police Sacco Stadium in South C, Nairobi.

The season finale showcased the champion mentality that has defined the Bullets all year.

Rebecca Okwaro scored the winner

A clinical 40th-minute strike by star forward Rebecca Okwaro, beautifully set up by Margaret Kunihira, proved to be the decisive goal.

The victory sparked ecstatic celebrations during the post-match trophy presentation, where players, technical staff and fans celebrated a legendary “three-peat” achieved in just their third season in the top flight.

Under a disciplined and tactically superior coaching regime, the Bullets put together an elite season that left no doubt as to who rules women’s football in Kenya.

They finished the league with an impressive 58 points, pulling five points clear at the top of the standings ahead of their closest military rivals, Ulinzi Starlets, who finished second.

Bullets to play in international stage

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Hussein Mohammed congratulated Police Bullets for their latest success saying their hard work and consistency had earned them the title.

“Your hard work and consistency earned you the title. We also recognize and commend every team that participated this season,” said Mohammed.

“The level of competition, goals scored, and determination shown in every match strengthened the league and served as an inspiration to every aspiring women footballer across the country.

“FKF is continuously working to increase investment in women’s football through better infrastructure, stronger support for clubs and players, and improved youth pathways. We are also engaging the private sector to expand this support.

“Our goal is to make women football more competitive and sustainable as well as develop structures where talent is identified early, developed well, and rewarded at the highest level. Next season promises to be even better.”

With domestic dominance safely secured, Kenya Police Bullets now shift their focus to international assignments. The three-time champions will fly Kenya’s flag on the regional stage as they prepare for the upcoming CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Zonal qualifiers later this year.
