Todd Monken: Week 1 was tough, our guys trusted the process

The Browns moved to 3-1 when Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers's final, desperate heave was picked off by safety Grant Delpit on Thursday night and head coach Todd Monken reflected on how improbable that record would have felt not so long ago.

Week 1 saw the Jaguars pummel Monken's team in his head coaching debut and much of the conversation was about whether they would bench quarterback Deshaun Watson before their Week 3 home opener. Those discussions all centered around the incessant boos Watson heard from Browns fans in an August preseason game against the Bills, but it turned out to be a lot of wasted words. milkshake.it.com

Watson has led game-winning drives in the fourth quarter each of the last three weeks and the entire Browns team has had little resemblance to the one that got blown out in Jacksonville.

"It’s a credit, I’ll go back to Deshaun, but to our team. I mean, that was a complete, maybe disaster is a little bit strong, but that’s a tough opening game in every phase, other than maybe kickoff return, maybe, other than that," Monken said, via a transcript from the team. "But the guys trusted the process. We got stung a little bit, and our guys responded to that. And, man, that locker room is fun, right there celebrating those guys. Big, big, big divisional win. And so, but Deshaun, before the game, I got a chance to, I was in the coach’s office, and I was going over the call sheet with him again, and I said, 'Isn’t this really cool? Like, you’re going to be introduced last, isn’t that really freaking cool?' It was only seven weeks earlier, and, right, it’s, 'Where are we going to go from here, right? The Bills game at home, right? Where are we going from here, where are you going, where are we going?' So cool."

Monken noted later in his press conference that its only three wins and there is certainly a lot of football left to be played, but that's a promising prospect for Cleveland rather than a distressing one for the first time in a long time.

Daley Thompson: Knighthood Wouldn't Change Me

Daley Thompson, the double Olympic decathlon gold medalist, insists a knighthood wouldn't change his life or diminish his achievements. The 1980s sporting great, who broke the world record four times and remained unbeaten for nine years, continues to train on Christmas Day, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to athletics. Thompson explains that his work ethic was always his greatest asset, stating he was 'happy to sleep on floors to do what I was doing' because 'you know you have to earn it.'

When asked about his commercial success compared to contemporary Seb Coe, Thompson revealed he secured a video game deal while Coe didn't, attributing it to his marketability during his peak years. Despite his legendary status, Thompson remains grounded, reflecting that while 'life kind of knocks those edges off you,' he 'never happened to me' as he always achieved his goals.

Denzel Ward: I hope Aaron Rodgers keeps throwing at me

Browns cornerback Denzel Ward intercepted Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers in the second quarter of the Browns' 27-24 win on Thursday night, and he said after the game that he loves it when Rodgers throws at him.

Asked if Rodgers will stop throwing at him after Thursday night's game, Ward answered, "I hope not. I hope he keeps throwing at me. Good things happen when he throws at me. I hope he keeps throwing at me."

At the time of Ward's interception, the Steelers were winning 7-0 with 14 minutes left in the second quarter. By the time there was 1 minute left in the second quarter, the Browns were winning 21-7. Browns coach Todd Monken made a point of mentioning Ward's interception as the play that turned the game around.

"Big credit to Denzel Ward. He changed the momentum of the game. We just didn't convert the first drive, and then we had a big play and stalled, and then Denzel flipped it and we go things going," Monken said.

Ward said he thinks the Browns are turning things around.

"It felt good. It just shows the resilience of this team, this organization, and all the fans. It's been a lot of up and downs, but we're on a winning track right now, changing the organization right now, and we're looking to stack one on top of the other," Ward said on the Prime Video broadcast.

How many more wins the Browns can stack remains to be seen, but right now they're 3-1 and atop the AFC North.
